Siorapaluk

Greenland
2013

The experience

On this occasion Paco embarked on an adventure in its purest form. Unprepared, he went to live with the last Inuits inhabiting the north of Greenland. The aim of this adventure was to dive in Siorapaluk, the last inhabited village further north of the planet, and the Thule region, while learning orientation, survival and cold adaptation techniques from the Eskimos

Only 10 families live in Siorapaluk and nobody had submerged under the ice in this so far north region before. Accompanied by inuit hunters, Paco traveled the region of Thule on dog sleds for weeks looking for cracks in the ice which allowed the diving, becoming the first person in history to explore these frozen waters. The intimate links he forged with the inhabitants of this place made this experience a remarkably special one
