Monday starts … INARI LAKE, in remote northern Finland, will be my home for the next 2 weeks. A new SOLO adventure through the largest lake in Lapland. “The sacred lake” of the Saami, the Lapon people who survive the cold and now claim their rights as an indigenous people.
If my recent knee injury does not stop me, this adventure will take me to cross the lake skiing and diving from south to north, from the town of Inari to Sevettijärvi … about 110 km in total, in a lake whose temperatures at this moment fluctuate between -8ºC and -15ºC, something bearable as long as the wind does not appear, since the thermal sensation could drop down to -25ºC or -30ºC.
Once again the DIVE UNDER ICE will be the engine of this adventure, even more so when the diving points planed in the lake are the most interesting I have faced in a long time, so much, that the day I will do the first dive no so far from the point of departure (the population of Inari) will be visit me with a snowmobile on the ice a photographer and Risto, a renowned journalist who will write a report on this adventure in the most important newspaper in Finland … why?…becaus undre the Ice there is something of historical interest where nobody have never dived before …. I will find it?
There I leave you a photo-track
The chronicles? … very soon.
“… east wind and gray fog announce that what is to come, I can not imagine what will happen, but what happens now, already happened again …” 😉
